VOLUNTEER
Our volunteers are essential to the services we can provide in the community. There are many ways you can help us through volunteering, or you might have an idea of your own!
All our volunteers are police vetted and will receive training and orientation to support them to be successful in their role.
Our current volunteer roles are:
Steady As You Go Peer Leaders
Volunteers are needed to help our Steady As You Go (SAY Go) groups with class set-up, leading the group, measurement and observation. Training and ongoing support is provided.
The role is to keep the class going by:
- Setting up class
- Managing resources (CD, contact details)
- Helping class members with exercises
- Monitoring safety
- Keeping in touch with Coordinator
- Promote a friendly, inclusive class atmosphere and most of all having fun
- Full training provided

Activity and Group Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to support the running of our activities and groups in Hastings and Central Hawke’s Bay.
This may include:
- Setting up for an activity
- Facilitating and serving refreshments
- Driving members to and from
- Van Drivers for outings and pick ups
- General kitchen support, dishes, cooking etc
- Sharing/teaching a skill or craft

Meal Deliveries
Volunteers to deliver frozen meals in your local area.
The role includes:
- Picking up frozen meals from your local Age Concern and delivering to older people in your area.
- At times using the eftpos machine to collect payment
- Using your own vehicle

Become a Volunteer Visitor
Our local Napier Age Concern provides the Visiting Service for Hawke’s Bay, and they require volunteers in Hastings and Central Hawke’s Bay.
Do you have:
- An interest in and empathy with older people
- A genuine desire to offer friendship and companionship
- Good communication skills, including being an active listener
- Tact, objectivity, and maturity
- An interest in community service
- Respect for confidentiality
- Cultural sensitivity, awareness, and acceptance of difference
